TOWN CLERK UPDATE ON ABSENTEE BALLOTS - JUNE 18

Below is from Town Clerk's website [edited to add hyperlink]:

Hello Norton,

The ballots are in.  We will start sending out ballots today for the July 13th Special Town Election.

A couple of things to know:

I had to dig way down in the dungeon for envelopes, (and trust me that is a very creepy, dirty, grungy basement.) so if you receive any envelopes that have marker cross outs, don't panic.  No updated envelopes have been delivered from the state.  All you need to care about is that your ballot is put in the ballot envelope, signed and returned.

MOST IMPORTANT!!  When you put your ballot into the ballot envelope PLEASE, PLEASE sign your name.  We cannot accept a ballot without a signature.  If we do, that ballot is spoiled and we have to send out another one, so again please sign that envelope.

You may complete a vote by mail ballot application to have a ballot mailed to you or you may come into the Town Clerks Office to vote absentee during normal business hours.

The ballot box outside the front of Town Hall is unlocked so feel free to drop your ballot or applications into the box.  It is check several times a day.

Applications can be found on the Town Clerk's website page at nortonma.org/town-clerk

If you have any questions at all, please call the Town Clerk's Office at 508-285-0230.

FYI, we are closed Wednesday, June 19th.

Be safe, be well, be kind.

Thank you.

TOWN CLERK POST ON BALLOTS - JUNE 6

Below is from Town Clerk's website [edited to add hyperlinks to the forms]:

SPECIAL TOWN ELECTION

The Special Town Election will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the Norton Middle School. The polling hours will be from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm.

Both Vote by Mail and Absentee voting will take place. There will be NO LIVE EARLY VOTING which means no hours will be scheduled to vote during the week or on weekends as in State Elections.

You may come into Town Hall during normal business hours to vote absentee once the ballots are in. The ballots will be ordered next week and should be in within two weeks after placing the order. As soon as they arrive, you will be notified and they will be mailed out right away. More information will follow when that happens.

Applications must be completed in order to receive a ballot which can be found on the Town Clerk's website page, you may come into the Town Clerk's Office to pick one up, the Council on Aging and I have also put a plastic bag filled with them in the orange newspaper box outside Town Hall. Once the ballots arrive, they will be sent out right away.

Completed applications may be put into the ballot box outside the front door at Town Hall, mailed in or dropped off at the Clerk's Office.

Thank you

Lucia Longhurst

Anyone who sent back the post card which the state sent out at the beginning of the year and checked off to receive a ballot for "ALL ELECTIONS THIS YEAR" will automatically be sent a ballot once the ballots are received.

WHAT WILL THE BALLOT LOOK LIKE?

For the purposes of the override, there are two question:  1A and 1B.

"Question 1A and 1B are separate questions.  You may vote for or against each question independently.  Each question requires a majority of those voting on that question to pass.  If more than one question passes, then the question with the highest dollar amount will prevail."

Question 1A would increase our levy limit by $4M and fund the $4M budget passed at Town Meeting.

Question 1B would increase our levy limit by $6.5M and fund the $6.5M budget passed at Town Meeting.

Everyone For Norton encourages voting YES on both 1A and 1B.

If neither passes, we will be left with the default 1% budget.
